The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) participated in the "Development Dialogue" organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria, to discuss the challenges facing global supply chains and ways to enhance their resilience and sustainability, as part of the FairShare program.

During his speech via videoconference, Basil Rahmi, CEO of the Authority, emphasized that the Authority works on multiple axes to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including building local capacities, developing production to comply with export standards, introducing environmentally friendly materials, and providing advisory and training services to project owners. He explained that these efforts have contributed to enabling thousands of small producers to access local and international markets, diversifying their clients, and enhancing their ability to face economic challenges.

Rahmy pointed out that Egypt, through the agency, is capable of contributing to the "fair share" program through its national networks and practical expertise in linking small and medium-sized enterprises to sustainable supply chains, especially in rural areas.

For his part, Günter Beger, Director-General of UNIDO, emphasized that "sustainable supply chains are not just about compliance, but also about fairness, resilience, and shared prosperity." Dr. Raafat Abbas, General Supervisor of Development Sectors at the Agency, explained that there is a plan to expand capacity building, enhance digital integration, and coordinate with chambers of commerce to connect Egyptian agricultural companies with European markets.

The event concluded with participants emphasizing the importance of investing in digital skills and technologies to support supply chains' ability to adapt to changes. Meanwhile, Verbe Stokke, Head of UNIDO's Fair Production Section, emphasized that 2025 will be the year for the design and actual implementation of the Fair Share program, paving the way for its expansion in 2026.
